GENERAL INFO
Welcome to the Boys 2018 Water Polo Season! We are extremely excited to provide you with the opportunity to be a part of a sports team and family here at Elsinore High School. Water polo is an awesome sport that provides athletes with an opportunity to grow not only physically, but to become well-rounded individuals. We believe water polo can teach extremely valuable life lessons and skills such as, teamwork, commitment, communication, perseverance, patience, and many others. Our purpose is to teach young athletes the sport of water polo, while having fun. We will maintain a positive atmosphere on the pool deck and focus on respecting everyone who enters it. It is our hope that every athlete will have noticeable growth in all aspects of development at the end of the season.
We have a lot of major changes going on this season:
1. We are excited to bring on Coach Kenny to help us out with JV and possibly Frosh.
2. We are in a new league/conference as well as a new division!.
Tryouts:
In order to raise the standards of the EHS Boys Water Polo program we will be having tryouts and cutting those athletes that do not meet these standards. The tryouts will be during the first week of practice (Tryout Week). Major components of the tryouts will assess athletes on swim strength, leg strength, passing, shooting, knowledge of the game, and work ethic. Athletes will be scored on a rubric (attached below) and will be required to meet a score of 16 out of 28 points possible in order to make the team. The expectations will be scaffolded based on grade level. In other words seniors will be held to a higher standard than Juniors, Juniors higher than sophomores, and sophomores higher than freshman. The tryout rubric is posted at the bottom of this page.
*Caveat for Unique Circumstances During Tryouts*... I.E. Missed practices due to major illness, attitude/behavior problems, history of or current ineligibility, and any other unique circumstance will be assessed on an individual basis and ultimately decided on by the coaching staff.
Practice Times:
Practices will generally 2:30 right after school (make sure you are enrolled in Wade's 6th period to be suited up and ready to go) and end at 5:30pm. Practices will end earlier towards the end of season. There will be Monday and Thursday Morning Practices 5:30-7AM. Be sure to check out the TRX class on Saturdays.
Games and tournaments are on the calendar tab as well.
Necessary Items:

Pricing:
Our sports team does not have gear that can be reused each season. Swim suits do wear out and need to be purchased every season. You have the opportunity to purchase your own speedo or jammers at any sports store. Or you can purchase a suit through the team. We design our suits and make a large order at the beginning of each season. If you would like a suit through the team. Keep in mind it is never mandatory to pay for anything on this team all we can ask for is donations of time, money etc.
Fundraising:
If the team participates in any fundraiser this season, every athlete is required to participate. The money is going to the entire team. Lack of participation for these events will be considered an unexcused absence.
Clocks:
We need everyone to help with clocks. Varsity players will be expected to help with clocks for JV tournament, and JV players are expected to learn and run clocks as well.
Snack Bar:
The snack bar is another form of fundraising. The snack bar helps fund our banquet and pool deck upgrades. The snack bar would not function without help from parents and players, so we ask that everyone lend a hand. We have a great group of parents who run our snack bar each year and are always looking for extra help so they have the ability to watch their own athletes play.
Nutrition:
This will be a fun and challenging season, as coaches we will give every athlete our all and we expect 100 percent effort in return. Water polo is a very tough and physical sport best described as a mix of wrestling, swimming, basketball, soccer, and hockey. To properly prepare, our athletes should expect rigorous conditioning in swimming, treading water, and weight lifting. These are all necessary elements to be successful in water polo. It is expected all athletes have necessary water and nutrition to make sure they are properly nourished and able to recover.
